Spectrum White is gone. Everything just disappeared. Everything. Tens of thousands of lines of code, countless hours of time spent working and tirelessly tapping away at little buttons to make little letters and words and symbols appear on the screen… Literally just vanished without a trace. All of the files are gone. I don’t know why, I don’t know how, but they’re gone.
A 256x256x256 cube only uses about 10mB of RAM now, thanks to 8-bit color. Plus, everything looks legitimately retro now.
Look, not dead!
Also, I just reduced the amount of RAM a 256x256x256 hollow cube in Spectrum White uses from 3,840 mB to 30 mB. Which is still way too much.
Happy World Backup Day!
Let’s all procrastinate and not back up our files, making up excuses as to why we don’t have the time for it.

Take her for a spin! ..Just know that this is a very primitive test and that the engine is still in very early stages. EDIT: The link 404’d. It should be fixed now.
(There was supposed to be a photo here.)
What luck! My new laptop was returned in favor of a smaller model. To make up for the unexpected hiatus, I’ll be uploading a treat in a few hours here.
My computer is fried. My motherboard is on the fritz, and I don’t have anything to fall back on. Probably won’t be able to get anything done for at least a week or two, while I await a replacement. Meh.
I may have misplaced a digit or two in the title. Anyways: The <insert-name-of-game-engine-here> Engine! …Which you may now refer to as the Spectrum Engine. The Spectrum Engine is the *new* name of Cylynx Software’s in-house game engine. It’s coded completely in Java, and will be powering all of our games after Twilightlicious PHYZIKZ. I’m working on the engine...
Small update time! The news section on the Cylynx website has been down for a week or two, due to the Cylynx blog on Tumblr going offline. Why did it go offline? I have no idea. A new makeshift news page should be put up soon, and that will serve as the temporary news page while we migrate over to an official doman. (www.cylynx.net) I’ll be purchasing the domain using money from our...
Sorry for the hiccup in updates! Anyways, next update: GRiID. If you don’t know what GRiID is, it’s Cylynx Software’s next project, after Twilightlicious PHYZIKZ. It’s a retro top-down space trade simulator in which the ship is controlled only by a command line on the ship computer. You’ll take on the role of a young man, who’s just left his home and...
Sorry if the blog got all wibbly-wobbly for a while, Tumblr detected “suspicious code” in my theme. Anyways, the Farm^mOS preview video should be up as soon as I get Fraps set up. In the meantime, I’ll start preparing the next few updates on my other projects.
Alright, first of several updates. Farm^mOS: Farm^mOS has been completely redesigned from the ground up. There will be two versions, both available from the Farm^mOS floppy disk: Farm^mOS Turtle, and Farm^mOS PC. Farm^mOS Turtle will be a watered down version of Farm^mOS PC. The Turtle it is installed on will be given a name and the ID of a computer it will act as a slave to. The Turtle...
Now that everything is operational Again® I’ll be posting updates in a few. Farm^mOS, Twilightlicious PHYZIKZ, and RedCPU have all been worked on, and I’m also starting a new project, as if I didn’t have enough on my plate already. Oh well. More to do in my spare time.
spetharrific said: do you have an idea how high level you’re going to build it?...– RedCPU’s processor will be able to interpret 4 bit opcodes, with a total of 15 possible opcodes. You’ll be programming it in Assembly, but with no actual interface to input text into. So you ARE more or less just programming it in machine code. I’ll post some more documentation on...
spetharrific said: this looks pretty cool.. i’m rather curious as to how you’re...– Nice to see your interested! c: I’m making it in Minecraft (Obviously,) with Eloraam’s RedPower mod. RedPower makes Redstone circuits much more compact and easy to make. As for it’s intended purpose…. It will be programmable, and will run programs. But, being a virtual...
So… For a while now I’ve wanted to build a computer. Not the “Go to Walmart, buy some parts, and throw them together in a custom case” kind of a building a computer. I’m talking going to Radio Shack, buying a kiloton of transistors, resistors, capacitors, and cables, then actually BUILDING a computer from the ground up, using TTL. (Transistor-Transistor Logic) ...
I WOULD’VE UPLOADED SOME LOVELY SCREENCAPS TODAY BUT LINUX DOESN’T WANT ME TO
Development resuming in 3… ..hours.
“I actually do not like taco bell in the slightest. This one time when I was younger my dad came home with like 27 tacos and because I was a dumb little kid I had a bunch and felt totally sick. So then I ate literally an entire box of tums and didn’t poop for like eight days. It was weird.”
Cylynx Software →
After over a week of hard work, Cylynx Software now has it’s own website! In case you’re wondering: Cylynx Software is a team of game developers (including myself) working together to bring you some awesomeriffically tubular games. So why not donate and help us out? EDIT: Fixed the link.
The blog looks Ice-Cream-Sandwich-y now. Also, Derpy.
Streaming is Over
Hope you got a glimpse of what I was working on while you could. Also, for those of you that did watch the stream: Sorry about the dreadful quality. I couldn’t find a way to fix that.
Clicky Clicky Edit: Session is over!
I’m still alive and kicking! Just busy. Oh so very busy. My next update will be a big one: I assure you.
Progress (Or Lack Thereof)
Have to revert back to Minecraft 1.1 in order to work on Farm^OS more. Either that, or wait for an update from the creator of ComputerCraft.
